Mets Sweep Doubleheader with Yankees
The Mets made it 3 wins in a row by sweeping Saturday's doubleheader with the Yankees.

Game 1
Carlos Portocarrero started for the Mets went the distance. In 7 innings, Carlos allowed 6 hits, and struck out 4 while walking 1 batter. The Mets broke things open in the 2nd inning. Angelo Deblasi led off with a single, Luis Lewis and Jon Sosner walked to load the bases with 2 out for Pete Holmes. Holmes was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Kris Couch followed and took a 2-1 pitch to left center for a grand slam. Portocarrero and Jimmy Sostak then coaxed back-to-back walks, and Carlos was able to score on a passed ball.
All the Yankee runs came in the 3rd on 2 hits,a walk and 2 hit batters. In the bottom of the 3rd, Luis Lewis homered for the 2nd straight game to add to the lead. The Mets added runs in the 4th and 5th to make it a 9-3 final.

Game 2
Matt Mykowski took the hill for Game 2 and was lights out. Mykowski threw 4 shutout innings striking out 4, allowing just 1 hit. The Mets again struck with the long ball as Angelo DeBlasi hit a grand slam in the 2nd inning. The Mets scored 9 runs on 3 hits in the 2nd. The newest Met, catcher Mark Noth, added a 2 run shot in the 5th inning. The Yankees pushed 3 runs across in the 5th, but by then the game was decided. The final was 18-3.

Next game is Thursday night against the Aviators at Maywood.
