After stranding the tying run at 3rd in the 6th, the Mets fought back in the 7th with a leadoff walk by Mike Carlin. Carlin advanced to 3rd as Joey Haufle grounded to short and reached on an errant throw. Carlin then scored on a wild pitch. That pitched sent Haufle to 2nd. Angelo Deblasi came through with a walk-off double to drive in Haufle and give the Mets their first victory.
