Braves Neutralize Electrons,Win 5th Straight

The Braves scored 18 runs to take down the Electrons 18-2 Tuesday night at Winnemac Park. Roy Smetana went the distance, throwing 5 strong innings. Smetana allowed 2 runs (both unearned) on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5. He also helped his own cause by going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, a triple and 4 RBIs. Kevin Russell also powered the Brave attack going 4 for 4 with a double and 3 runs. Russell drove in 2.

Tuesday marked the return of Matt Kempf to the plate. Kempf got his first at bats of the year and responded with a 2 for 4 evening. He had 2 RBIs and scored a run. Kempf also nearly beat out a swinging bunt attempt on a knuckle ball in the 3rd. Fortunately, he was safe and was able to advance to 2nd on an errant throw to 1st from the 3rd baseman. Not to be left out was Nick Hirka. He also earned his first plate appearance of '05 and coaxed a walk in the 5th.

Some other Brave players had big nights Tuesday as well. Trent (Larry) Gann (Walker) went 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Dan Holleman was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs. Joe Petrancosta was 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs. Kris Couch was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.

Benitez Watch:
Elio "Sammy Sosa" Benitez did not make it to the ballpark Tuesday. Benitez was working on a commercial shoot and promotional spot for Pepsi. Additionally, Benitez was interviewed by ESPN Deportes last night to discuss the tear the Braves have been on recently. That interview will be rebroadcast later this week on CMBA TV. Next up for the Braves is a 10am game Saturday against the Marlins at Maine East HS. It will be a busy weekend. Sunday they will return to Winnemac for a 12:30 game against the Red Sox.
